Salmos 89

1
Maschil of Ethan the Ezrahite.
[A Psalm] of instruction for Ethan the Israelite.
2
I will sing of the mercies of HaShem for ever; to all generations will I make known Thy faithfulness with my mouth.
I will sing of thy mercies, O Lord, forever: I will declare thy truth with my mouth to all generations.
3
For I have said: 'For ever is mercy built; in the very heavens Thou dost establish Thy faithfulness.
For thou hast said, Mercy shall be built up forever: Thy truth shall be established in the heavens.
4
I have made a covenant with My chosen, I have sworn unto David My servant:
I made a covenant with my chosen ones, I swore unto David my servant.
5
For ever will I establish thy seed, and build up thy throne to all generations.' Selah
I will establish thy seed forever, And build up thy throne to all generations. Pause.
6
So shall the heavens praise Thy wonders, O HaShem, Thy faithfulness also in the assembly of the holy ones.
The heavens shall declare thy wonders, O Lord; And thy truth in the assembly of the saints.
7
For who in the skies can be compared unto HaShem, who among the sons of might can be likened unto HaShem,
Ὅτι τίς ἐν νεφέλαις ἰσωθήσεται τῷ Κυρίῳ; καὶ τίς ὁμοιωθήσεται τῷ Κυρίῳ ἐν υἱοῖς Θεοῦ;
For who in the heavens shall be compared to the Lord? And who shall be likened to the Lord among the sons of God?
8
A G-d dreaded in the great council of the holy ones, and feared of all them that are about Him?
God is glorified in the council of the saints; Great and terrible toward all that are round about him.
9
O HaShem G-d of hosts, who is a mighty one, like unto Thee, O HaShem? And Thy faithfulness is round about Thee.
O Lord God of hosts, who is like to thee? Thou art mighty, O Lord, and thy truth is round about thee.
10
Thou rulest the proud swelling of the sea; when the waves thereof arise, Thou stillest them.
Thou rulest the power of the sea; And thou calmest the tumult of its waves.
11
Thou didst crush Rahab, as one that is slain; Thou didst scattered Thine enemies with the arm of Thy strength.
Thou hast brought down the proud as one that is slain; And with the arm of thy power thou hast scattered thine enemies.
12
Thine are the heavens, Thine also the earth; the world and the fulness thereof, Thou hast founded them.
The heavens are thine, and the earth is thine: Thou hast founded the world, and the fullness of it.
13
The north and the south, Thou hast created them; Tabor and Hermon rejoice in Thy name.
Thou hast created the north and the west: Tabor and Hermon shall rejoice in thy name.
14
Thine is an arm with might; strong is Thy hand, and exalted is Thy right hand.
Thine is the mighty arm: Let thy hand be strengthened, let thy right hand be exalted.
15
Righteousness and justice are the foundation of Thy throne; mercy and truth go before Thee.
Justice and judgment are the establishment of thy throne: Mercy and truth shall go before thy face.
16
Happy is the people that know the joyful shout; they walk, O HaShem, in the light of Thy countenance.
Blessed is the people that knows the joyful sound: They shall walk, O Lord, in the light of thy countenance.
17
In Thy name do they rejoice all the day; and through Thy righteousness are they exalted.
And in thy name shall they rejoice all the day: And in thy righteousness shall they be exalted.
18
For Thou art the glory of their strength; and in Thy favour our horn is exalted.
For thou art the boast of their strength; And in thy good pleasure shall our horn be exalted,
19
For of HaShem is our shield; and the Holy One of Israel is our king.
For [our] help is of the Lord; And of the Holy One of Israel, our king.
20
Then Thou spokest in vision to Thy godly ones, and saidst: 'I have laid help upon one that is mighty; I have exalted one chosen out of the people.
Then thou spokest in vision to thy children, And saidst, I have laid help on a mighty one; I have exalted one chosen out of my people.
21
I have found David My servant; with My holy oil have I anointed him;
I have found David my servant; I have anointed him by [my] holy mercy.
22
With whom My hand shall be established; Mine arm also shall strengthen him.
For my hand shall support him; And mine arm shall strengthen him.
23
The enemy shall not exact from him; nor the son of wickedness afflict him.
The enemy shall have no advantage against him; And the son of transgression shall not hurt him again.
24
And I will beat to pieces his adversaries before him, and smite them that hate him.
And I will hew down his foes before him, And put to flight those that hate him.
25
But My faithfulness and My mercy shall be with him; and through My name shall his horn be exalted.
But my truth and my mercy shall be with him; And in my name shall his horn be exalted.
26
I will set his hand also on the sea, and his right hand on the rivers.
And I will set his hand in the sea, And his right hand in the rivers.
27
He shall call unto Me: Thou art my Father, my G-d, and the rock of my salvation.
He shall call upon me, [saying], Thou art my Father, My God, and the helper of my salvation.
28
I also will appoint him first-born, the highest of the kings of the earth.
And I will make him [my] firstborn, Higher than the kings of the earth.
29
For ever will I keep for him My mercy, and My covenant shall stand fast with him.
I will keep my mercy for him forever, And my covenant [shall be] firm with him.
30
His seed also will I make to endure for ever, and his throne as the days of heaven.
And I will establish his seed forever and ever, And his throne as the days of heaven.
31
If his children forsake My law, and walk not in Mine ordinances;
If his children should forsake my law, And walk not in my judgments;
32
If they profane My statutes, and keep not My commandments;
If they should profane my ordinances, And not keep my commandments;
33
Then will I visit their transgression with the rod, and their iniquity with strokes.
I will visit their transgressions with a rod, And their sins with scourges.
34
But My mercy will I not break off from him, nor will I be false to My faithfulness.
But my mercy I will not utterly remove from him, Nor wrong my truth.
35
My covenant will I not profane, nor alter that which is gone out of My lips.
Neither will I by any means profane my covenant; And I will not make void the things that proceed out of my lips.
36
Once have I sworn by My holiness: Surely I will not be false unto David;
Once have I sworn by my holiness, that I will not lie to David.
37
His seed shall endure for ever, and his throne as the sun before Me.
His seed shall endure forever, And his throne as the sun before me;
38
It shall be established for ever as the moon; and be stedfast as the witness in sky.' Selah
And as the moon [that is] established forever, And as the faithful witness in heaven. Pause.
39
But Thou hast cast off and rejected, Thou hast been wroth with Thine anointed.
But thou hast cast off and set at nought, Thou hast rejected thine anointed.
40
Thou hast abhorred the covenant of Thy servant; Thou hast profaned his crown even to the ground.
Thou hast overthrown the covenant of thy servant; Thou hast profaned his sanctuary, [casting it] to the ground.
41
Thou hast broken down all his fences; Thou hast brought his strongholds to ruin.
Thou hast broken down all his hedges; Thou hast made his strongholds a terror.
42
All that pass by the way spoil him; he is become a taunt to his neighbours.
All that go by the way have spoiled him: He is become a reproach to his neighbors.
43
Thou hast exalted the right hand of his adversaries; Thou hast made all his enemies to rejoice.
Thou hast exalted the right hand of his enemies; Thou hast made all his enemies to rejoice.
44
Yea, Thou turnest back the edge of his sword, and hast not made him to stand in the battle.
Thou hast turned back the help of his sword, And hast not helped him in the battle.
45
Thou hast made his brightness to cease, and cast his throne down to the ground.
Thou hast deprived him of glory: Thou hast broken down his throne to the ground.
46
The days of his youth hast Thou shortened; Thou hast covered him with shame. Selah
Thou hast shortened the days of his throne: Thou hast poured shame upon him. Pause.
47
How long, O HaShem, wilt Thou hide Thyself for ever? How long shall Thy wrath burn like fire?
Ἕως πότε Κύριε ἀποστρέφῃ εἰς τέλος; ἐκκαυθήσεται ὡς πῦρ ἡ ὀργή σου;
How long, O Lord, wilt thou turn away, forever? Shall thine anger flame out as fire?
48
O remember how short my time is; for what vanity hast Thou created all the children of men!
Μνήσθητι τίς ἡ ὑπόστασίς μου· μὴ γὰρ ματαίως ἔκτισας πάντας τοὺς υἱοὺς τῶν ἀνθρώπων;
Remember what my being is: For hast thou created all the sons of men in vain?
49
What man is he that liveth and shall not see death, that shall deliver his soul from the power of the grave? Selah
What man is there who shall live, and not see death? Shall [anyone] deliver his soul from the hand of Hades? Pause.
50
Where are Thy former mercies, O L-rd, which Thou didst swear unto David in Thy faithfulness?
Ποῦ ἐστι τὰ ἐλέη σου τὰ ἀρχαῖα, Κύριε, ἃ ὤμοσας τῷ Δαυὶδ ἐν τῇ ἀληθείᾳ σου;
Where are thine ancient mercies, O Lord, Which thou sworest to David in thy truth?
51
Remember, L-rd, the taunt of Thy servants; how I do bear in my bosom the taunt of so many peoples;
Remember, O Lord, the reproach of thy servants, Which I have borne in my bosom, [even the reproach] of many nations;
52
Wherewith Thine enemies have taunted, O HaShem, wherewith they have taunted the footsteps of Thine anointed.
Wherewith thine enemies have reviled, O Lord: Wherewith they have reviled the recompense of thine anointed.
53
Blessed be HaShem for evermore. Amen, and Amen. BOOK IV
Blessed be the Lord forever. So be it, so be it.

JPS 1917 — The Holy Scriptures according to the Masoretic Text

1–36, siglo III a.
