2 Crónicas 28

1
Ahaz was twenty years old when he began to reign; and he reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem; and he did not that which was right in the eyes of HaShem, like David his father;
Ahaz was five and twenty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem: and he did not that which was right in the sight of the Lord, as David his father.
2
but he walked in the ways of the kings of Israel, and made also molten images for the Baalim.
But he walked in the ways of the kings of Israel, for he made graven images.
3
Moreover he offered in the valley of the son of Hinnom, and burnt his children in the fire, according to the abominations of the heathen, whom HaShem cast out before the children of Israel.
And [he sacrificed] to their idols in the Valley of Ben-hinnom, and passed his children through the fire, according to the abominations of the heathen, whom the Lord cast out from before the children of Israel.
4
And he sacrificed and offered in the high places, and on the hills, and under every leafy tree.
And he burned incense upon the high places, and upon the roofs, and under every shady tree.
5
Wherefore HaShem his G-d delivered him into the hand of the king of Aram; and they smote him, and carried away of his a great multitude of captives, and brought them to Damascus. And he was also delivered into the hand of the king of Israel, who smote him with a great slaughter.
And the Lord his God delivered him into the hand of the king of Syria; and he smote him, and took captive of them a great band of prisoners, and carried him to Damascus. Also [God] delivered him into the hands of the king of Israel, who smote him with a great slaughter.
6
For Pekah the son of Remaliah slew in Judah a hundred and twenty thousand in one day, all of them valiant men; because they had forsaken HaShem, the G-d of their fathers.
And Pekah the son of Remaliah king of Israel, slew in Judah in one day a hundred and twenty thousand mighty men; because they had forsaken the Lord God of their fathers.
7
And Zichri, a mighty man of Ephraim, slew Maaseiah the king's son, and Azrikam the ruler of the house, and Elkanah that was next to the king.
And Zichri, a mighty man of Ephraim, slew Maaseiah the king’s son, and Azrikam the chief of his house, and Elkanah the king’s deputy.
8
And the children of Israel carried away captive of their brethren two hundred thousand women, sons, and daughters, and took also away much spoil from them, and brought the spoil to Samaria.
And the children of Israel took captive of their brethren three hundred thousand, women, and sons, and daughters, and they spoiled them of much property, and brought the spoils to Samaria.
9
But a prophet of HaShem was there, whose name was Oded; and he went out to meet the host that came to Samaria, and said unto them: 'Behold, because HaShem, the G-d of your fathers, was wroth with Judah, He hath delivered them into your hand, and ye have slain them in a rage which hath reached up unto heaven.
And there was there a prophet of the Lord, his name [was] Oded: and he went out to meet the host that were coming to Samaria, and said to them, Behold, the wrath of the Lord God of your fathers [is] upon Judah, and he has delivered them into your hands, and ye have slain them in wrath, and it has reached even to heaven.
10
And now ye purpose to bring the children of Judah and Jerusalem into subjection for bondmen and bondwomen unto you; but are there not even with you acts of guilt of your own against HaShem your G-d?
Καὶ νῦν υἱοὺς Ἰούδα καὶ Ἱερουσαλὴμ ὑμεῖς λέγετε κατακτήσασθαι εἰς δούλους καὶ δούλας· οὐκ ἰδού εἰμι μεθʼ ὑμῶν μαρτυρῆσαι Κυρίῳ Θεῷ ὑμῶν;
And now ye talk of keeping the children of Judah and Jerusalem for servants and handmaids. Lo, am I not with you to testify for the Lord your God?
11
Now hear me therefore, and send back the captives, that ye have taken captive of your brethren; for the fierce wrath of HaShem is upon you.'
And now hearken to me, and restore the prisoners of your brethren whom ye have taken: for the fierce anger of the Lord [is] upon you.
12
Then certain of the heads of the children of Ephraim, Azariah the son of Jehohanan, Berechiah the son of Meshillemoth, and Jehizkiah the son of Shallum, and Amasa the son of Hadlai, stood up against them that came from the war,
And the chiefs of the sons of Ephraim rose up, Azariah the son of Johanan, and Berechiah the son of Meshillemoth, and Jehizkiah the son of Shallum, and Amasa the son of Hadlai, against those that came from the war,
13
and said unto them: 'Ye shall not bring in the captives hither; for ye purpose that which will bring upon us guilt against HaShem, to add unto our sins and to our guilt; for our guilt is great, and there is fierce wrath against Israel.'
and said to them, Ye shall not bring in hither the prisoners to us, for whereas sin against the Lord [is] upon us, ye mean to add to our sins, and to our trespass: for our sin [is] great, and the fierce anger of the Lord [is] upon Israel.
14
So the armed men left the captives and the spoil before the princes and all the congregation.
So the warriors left the prisoners and the spoils before the princes and all the congregation.
15
And the men that have been mentioned by name rose up, and took the captives, and with the spoil clothed all that were naked among them, and arrayed them, and shod them, and gave them to eat and to drink, and anointed them, and carried all the feeble of them upon asses, and brought them to Jericho, the city of palm-trees, unto their brethren; then they returned to Samaria.
And the men who were called by name rose up, and took hold of the prisoners, and clothed all the naked from the spoils, and gave them garments and shoes, and gave them [food] to eat, and [oil] to anoint themselves [with], and they helped also everyone that was weak with asses, and placed them in Jericho, the city of palm trees, with their brethren; and they returned to Samaria.
16
At that time did king Ahaz send unto the kings of Assyria to help him.
At that time King Ahaz sent to the king of Assyria to help him, and on this occasion,
17
For again the Edomites had come and smitten Judah, and carried away captives.
because the Edomites had attacked [him], and smitten Judah, and taken a number of prisoners.
18
The Philistines also had invaded the cities of the Lowland, and of the South of Judah, and had taken Beth-shemesh, and Aijalon, and Gederoth, and Soco with the towns thereof, and Timnah with the towns thereof, Gimzo also and the towns thereof; and they dwelt there.
Also the Philistines had made an attack on the cities of the plain country, and the cities of the south of Judah, and taken Beth-shemesh, and the things in the house of the Lord, and the things in the house of the king, and of the princes: and they gave to the King Aijalon, and Gederoth, and Soco and her villages, and Timnah and her villages, and Gimzo and her villages: and they dwelt there.
19
For HaShem brought Judah low because of Ahaz king of Israel; for he had cast away restraint in Judah, and acted treacherously against HaShem.
For the Lord humbled Judah because of Ahaz king of Judah, because he grievously departed from the Lord.
20
And Tillegath-pilneser king of Assyria came unto him, and distressed him, but strengthened him not.
And there came against him Tiglath-pileser king of Assyria, and he afflicted him.
21
For Ahaz stripped the house of HaShem, and the house of the king and the princes, and gave thereof unto the king of Assyria; but it helped him not.
And Ahaz took the things [that were] in the house of the Lord, and the things in the house of the king, and of the princes, and gave them to the king of Assyria: but he was no help to him,
22
And in the time of his distress did he act even more treacherously against HaShem, this same king Ahaz.
but only [troubled him] in his affliction: and he departed yet more from the Lord, and King Ahaz said,
23
For he sacrificed unto the gods of Damascus, which smote him; and he said: 'Because the gods of the kings of Aram helped them, therefore will I sacrifice to them, that they may help me.' But they were the ruin of him, and of all Israel.
I will seek after the gods of Damascus that smite me. And he said, Forasmuch as the gods of the king of Syria themselves strengthen them, therefore will I sacrifice to them, and they will help me. But they became a stumbling block to him, and to all Israel.
24
And Ahaz gathered together the vessels of the house of G-d, and cut in pieces the vessels of the house of G-d, and shut up the doors of the house of HaShem; and he made him altars in every corner of Jerusalem.
And Ahaz removed the vessels of the house of the Lord, and cut them in pieces, and shut the doors of the house of the Lord, and made to himself altars in every corner in Jerusalem:
25
And in every city of Judah he made high places to offer unto other gods, and provoked HaShem, the G-d of his fathers.
and in each several city in Judah he made high places to burn incense to strange gods: and they provoked the Lord God of their fathers.
26
Now the rest of his acts, and all his ways, first and last, behold, they are written in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel.
And the rest of his acts, and his deeds, the first and the last, behold, [they are] written in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel.
27
And Ahaz slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city, even in Jerusalem; for they brought him not into the sepulchres of the kings of Israel; and Hezekiah his son reigned in his stead.
And Ahaz slept with his fathers, and was buried in the city of David; for they did not bring him into the sepulchers of the kings of Israel: and Hezekiah his son reigned in his stead.

JPS 1917 — The Holy Scriptures according to the Masoretic Text

1–36, siglo III a.
