2 Crónicas 13

1
In the eighteenth year of king Jeroboam began Abijah to reign over Judah.
In the eighteenth year of the reign of Jeroboam Abijah began to reign over Judah.
2
Three years reigned he in Jerusalem; and his mother's name was Micaiah the daughter of Uriel of Gibeah. And there was war between Abijah and Jeroboam.
He reigned three years in Jerusalem. And his mother’s name [was] Micaiah, daughter of Uriel of Gibeon. And there was war between Abijah and Jeroboam.
3
And Abijah joined battle with an army of valiant men of war, even four hundred thousand chosen men; and Jeroboam set the battle in array against him with eight hundred thousand chosen men, who were mighty men of valour.
And Abijah set the battle in array with an army, with mighty men of war, [even] four hundred thousand mighty men: and Jeroboam set the battle in array against him with eight hundred thousand, [they were] mighty warriors of the host.
4
And Abijah stood up upon mount Zemaraim, which is in the hill-country of Ephraim, and said: 'Hear me, O Jeroboam and all Israel;
And Abijah rose up from the Mount Zemaraim, which is in Mount Ephraim, and said, Hear ye, Jeroboam, and all Israel:
5
ought ye not to know that HaShem, the G-d of Israel, gave the kingdom over Israel to David for ever, even to him and to his sons by a covenant of salt?
Οὐχ ὑμῖν γνῶναι ὅτι Κύριος ὁ Θεὸς Ἰσραὴλ ἔδωκε βασιλέα ἐπὶ τὸν Ἰσραὴλ εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα τῷ Δαυὶδ καὶ τοῖς υἱοῖς αὐτοῦ διαθήκῃ ἁλός;
[Is it] not for you to know that the Lord God of Israel has given a king over Israel forever to David, and to his sons, by a covenant of salt?
6
Yet Jeroboam the son of Nebat, the servant of Solomon the son of David, rose up, and rebelled against his lord.
But Jeroboam the [son] of Nebat, the servant of Solomon [the son] of David, is risen up, and has revolted from his master:
7
And there were gathered unto him vain men, base fellows that strengthened themselves against Rehoboam the son of Solomon, when Rehoboam was young and faint-hearted, and could not withstand them.
and there are gathered to him pestilent men, transgressors, and he has risen up against Rehoboam the [son] of Solomon, while Rehoboam was young and fearful in heart, and he withstood him not.
8
And now ye think to withstand the kingdom of HaShem in the hand of the sons of David; and ye are a great multitude, and there are with you the golden calves which Jeroboam made you for gods.
And now ye profess to resist the kingdom of the Lord in the hand of the sons of David; and ye [are] a great multitude, and with you are golden calves, which Jeroboam made you for gods.
9
Have ye not driven out the priests of HaShem, the sons of Aaron, and the Levites, and have made you priests after the manner of the peoples of other lands? so that whosoever cometh to consecrate himself with a young bullock and seven rams, the same becometh a priest of them that are no gods.
Did ye not cast out the priests of the Lord, the sons of Aaron, and the Levites, and make to yourselves priests of the people of any [other] land? whoever came to consecrate himself with a calf of the herd and seven rams, he forthwith became a priest to that which is no god.
10
But as for us, HaShem is our G-d, and we have not forsaken Him; and we have priests ministering unto HaShem, the sons of Aaron, and the Levites in their work;
But we have not forsaken the Lord our God, and his priests, the sons of Aaron, and the Levites, minister to the Lord; and in their daily courses
11
and they burn unto HaShem every morning and every evening burnt-offerings and sweet incense; the showbread also set they in order upon the pure table; and the candlestick of gold with the lamps thereof, to burn every evening; for we keep the charge of HaShem our G-d; but ye have forsaken Him.
they sacrifice to the Lord whole burnt offering, morning and evening, and compound incense, and [set] the showbread on the pure table; and [there is] the golden candlestick, and the lamps for burning, to light in the evening: for we keep the charge of the Lord God of our fathers; but ye have forsaken him.
12
And, behold, G-d is with us at our head, and His priests with the trumpets of alarm to sound an alarm against you. O children of Israel, fight ye not against HaShem, the G-d of your fathers; for ye shall not prosper.'
And, behold, the Lord and his priests are with us at our head, and the signal trumpets to sound an alarm over us. Children of Israel, fight not against the Lord God of our fathers; for ye shall not prosper.
13
But Jeroboam caused an ambushment to come about behind them; so they were before Judah, and the ambushment was behind them.
Now Jeroboam had caused an ambush to come round upon him from behind: and he [himself] was before Judah, and the ambush behind.
14
And when Judah looked back, behold, the battle was before and behind them; and they cried unto HaShem, and the priests sounded with the trumpets.
And Judah looked back, and, behold, the battle [was] against them before and behind: and they cried to the Lord, and the priests sounded with the trumpets.
15
Then the men of Judah gave a shout; and as the men of Judah shouted, it came to pass, that G-d smote Jeroboam and all Israel before Abijah and Judah.
And the men of Judah shouted: and it came to pass, when the men of Judah shouted, that the Lord smote Jeroboam and Israel before Abijah and Judah.
16
And the children of Israel fled before Judah; and G-d delivered them into their hand.
And the children of Israel fled from before Judah; and the Lord delivered them into their hands.
17
And Abijah and his people slew them with a great slaughter; so there fell down slain of Israel five hundred thousand chosen men.
And Abijah and his people smote them with a great slaughter: and there fell slain of Israel five hundred thousand mighty men.
18
Thus the children of Israel were brought under at that time, and the children of Judah prevailed, because they relied upon HaShem, the G-d of their fathers.
So the children of Israel were brought low in that day, and the children of Judah prevailed, because they trusted on the Lord God of their fathers.
19
And Abijah pursued after Jeroboam, and took cities from him, Bethel with the towns thereof, and Jeshanah with the towns thereof, and Ephrain with the towns thereof.
And Abijah pursued after Jeroboam, and he took from him the cities, Bethel and her towns, and Jeshanah and her towns, and Ephron and her towns.
20
Neither did Jeroboam recover strength again in the days of Abijah; and HaShem smote him, and he died.
And Jeroboam did not recover strength again all the days of Abijah: and the Lord smote him, and he died.
21
But Abijah waxed mighty, and took unto himself fourteen wives, and begot twenty and two sons, and sixteen daughters.
But Abijah strengthened himself, and took to himself fourteen wives, and he begot twenty-two sons, and sixteen daughters.
22
And the rest of the acts of Abijah, and his ways, and his sayings, are written in the commentary of the prophet Iddo.
And the rest of the acts of Abijah, and his deeds, and his sayings, are written in the book of the prophet Iddo.
23
So Abijah slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city of David, and Asa his son reigned in his stead; in his days the land was quiet ten years.
And Abijah died with his fathers, and they buried him in the city of David; and Asa his son reigned in his stead. In the days of Asa the land of Judah had rest ten years.

JPS 1917 — The Holy Scriptures according to the Masoretic Text

1–36, siglo III a.
